This Mayfair model cost $7000 more than a standard Cooper S turbo when it was sold new - and the difference is in the small details of interior trim, badging, decals options and features - this is a standout model. The switch gear, buttons and knobs are all special and beautifully crafted.
For a near-$6000 premium, the Mayfair gets an aesthetic makeover of rare effectiveness. On the outside, it gets 17-inch alloys, grille-mounted driving lights to supplement the high beams, custom mirror housings and badging to let others know you're driving something a little bit special.
The interior benefits from sports seats, steering wheel and gear knob, all finished in unusual matt leather. Very stylish the package is, too. The 'hot chocolate' paintwork with contrasting 'Toffee' bonnet striping and the matt tan interior reprise beautifully the clubby feel of upmarket British cars of yesteryear.
Aware that brown isn't the go for everyone, MINI's made the Mayfair available in black or white too -- but the brown bonnet stripes and interior stay.
The white alloys on our test car (you can have silver if you prefer) and the driving lights accentuate the retro feel. Those extra lights work well, too -- flicking on high beam turns night into day. Also, the 240 Newton Meter (177 lb ft) figure can rise to 260 Nm with the help of an overboost feature. Coupled with over 100 horsepower per liter (175 hp from a displacement of 1.6 liters), a total weight of a little over a tonne and a manual transmission can only translate in pure driving joy.

Honestly, since the Mini Cooper S is so small and feisty, it actually felt at home on the very short and technical kart track. In a larger car with similar performance this would have probably felt like trying to sew with boxing gloves on.
We gotta say, the 225 km/h (139.8 mph) top speed is a bit eclipsed by the 7.1 seconds required to go from zero to 100 kil
